Fire Service has always been a part of my life. My dad and brother are firemen and at the age of 13 I decided I wanted to be a junior firefighter and joined my local department in that capacity. This background in fire service is the defining reason I chose Cleveland Community College and began pursuing my AAS in Fire Protection Technology.

After graduating high school and attending Campbell University for Elementary Education, I just never felt like I was following my heart. I spent two years at Campbell and eventually came back to my roots of fire service. Not long after, I started attending Cleveland Community College and pursuing my degree in Fire Science Technology. Because I needed to work while attending school, CCC offered me the flexibility of attending part-time. My CCC classes are also taught off-campus in a location that is conveniently located to my home and fits my work schedule. CCC is offering me everything I need for my career and has been a great educational experience. Currently, I am pulling double-duty at the Town of Lake Lure Fire Station as a firefighter and secretary.

My journey to become a member of the fire service profession has been a fulfilling one and without CCC I wouldn’t be where I am today. Upon graduation I plan to continue my professional fire service career and obtain my B.S. in Fire Science.
